How do I start playing?
Tap Start instrument and allow motion access if asked. Hold or tap the orange play control, then tilt the phone forward and backward for pitch. Tilt sideways for expression and tone.
What do Hold, Tap sustain and Always on do?
Hold plays only while your finger is down. Tap sustain toggles the theremin on and off with a tap. Always on keeps it sounding hands-free. Use Mute whenever you need immediate silence.
How do I make motion feel comfortable?
Hold the phone in a neutral playing position and tap Calibrate. Sensitivity, smoothing, pitch range, direction and the centre dead zone can be adjusted in Settings.
How does the harmony keyboard work?
Tap notes to latch them beneath the theremin. Hold several notes for a chord, or slide across the keys. Use Clear notes to stop the harmony layer. The layer can follow the selected key and scale.
Can I use a MIDI keyboard?
Yes. In the native iPhone/iPad app, connect a compatible USB or Bluetooth MIDI device and enable MIDI in Settings. On desktop web, use a browser with Web MIDI support such as Chrome or Edge. Safari web does not currently expose Web MIDI.
What does Learn knob do?
Choose a Theratone control, tap Learn knob, then move a knob on your MIDI controller. Theratone remembers that mapping on this device. Clear removes the saved mappings.
How do I pair another device?
On the sound-producing device, open Settings → Motion remote → Pair device. Scan the QR code with the device you want to use for movement, or enter its six-character code. Start motion on the remote; the first device continues to handle sound and MIDI.
Where are recordings stored?
Recordings stay temporarily inside the current app session. Theratone does not upload them. Use Save or Share if you want to keep one; choosing its destination is always under your control.
Why can’t I hear sound?
Check that the device is not muted, raise Master volume, and tap Start instrument again. Browser audio must begin after a user gesture. If using MIDI, remember that a controller usually sends notes but does not produce sound by itself—Theratone or another instrument must generate the audio.
Can Theratone work without an account?
Yes. There is no Theratone account or sign-in. Standalone playing works entirely on the device. Internet access is only needed to load the website or use optional device pairing.
